Capital Market Highlights: Aluminum

Aluminium is a staple industrial metal in a wide array of applications, from automotive to construction to aerospace. Aggregate aluminium demand is often considered to be a bellwether for overall economic health in North America.

The year has been very turbulent for aluminium, as the metal reached a low in January, recovering in March, and reversing again and has been on an upward trajectory since. In 2016, aluminium gained over 13.7% and has continued to rise as other base metals have on expectations of increased future demand in the US. Prices will also rest heavily on China’s future economic growth rate, which is uncertain at this time.
